21 Day Fix… Let’s Hope So!

As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m like the queen of all diets. Currently I’m on a whole foods diet with reduced (yes…that’s right…reduced) animal product intake. BUT I needed something else.. a little motivation.. a goal.. a timeline.. ANYTHING.

Like perfect timing, I was introduced to this new Beach Body Diet – call the 21 Day Fix. Intrigued by what I was told, I decided to do some more research and of course.. I’m going to share this information with you! Quick.. if you aren’t interested in hearing about another diet plan then close your browser, CTRL ALT DEL, or throw your phone.. cause here it comes.

The Beach Body 21 Day Diet Fix, claims that you will lose 5 to 10 lbs in just 21 days. Skeptical? Yeah so was I. So the plan is that you actually get all these unique colored containers. Each container is associated with a certain type of food for instance green is for vegetables like lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, and then purple is for fruits, etc. Then based on your caloric intake level (figured out based on an equation); you get a certain number of colors each day. You can fill the containers to the max and that’s what you are allowed to eat for that day. It helps take the guessing out of portion sizes.

I get the following colored containers each day..  3 greens, 2 purples, 4 reds, 2 yellows, 1 blue and 1 orange. YIKES How do I keep track of it.. well they have a tally sheet that you can print off but I actually downloaded a 21 day companion app to my phone. So I can easily mark off my colors as I eat them.

The program also includes a 30 minute work out video for every day, I haven’t tried the videos yet but I’m getting there… hopefully. The biggest thing for me was seeing the portion sizes. I used to make a salad and it would be full of tons of healthy stuff but it was actually too big of a salad. So these little containers are helping to give me a reality check on what is the correct size. As with most diets it does require some prep work as well.

As you can see in the below lunch. My large blue container actually has 2 green containers in it and then the red one has the chicken for my salad and the yellow one has some rice. You aren’t required to eat out of just those containers but they obviously help you in measuring what you are eating.

This was my afternoon snack of diced pineapples and some hummus.. yeah I didn’t have enough colors so I just ate the hummus with my spork (worst invention EVER!).

They also recommend that you drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces. This really isn’t a shocker and most of us have heard this before. I think by now everyone knows that WATER = GOOD/HEALTHY/HYDRATION/MAKES YOU FEEL FULL/ so on and so forth. So hop on the water wagon and run yourself to the potty (Yes, I have a 3yr old) every 30 minutes.

The plan also requires that you drop all artificial sweeteners. YIKES for any of you soda drinkers out there. Thankfully I very rarely drink soda, but my one vice is my COFFEE. I would drink it in the shower if I could. In my coffee I usually take 1 packet of splenda. So this week I’ve been trying to drink it straight up black.. and it’s absolutely the worst thing EVER! As soon as possible I ran and bought some stevia which the plan says you can have in small amounts. We will see how much the coffee improves from here.

So what about WINE and TREATS and EATING OUT?? Well they address all of that as well. You can have wine in small amounts and substitute one of your colors, you can have treats occasionally and sub a color. As for eating out they hope that you soon begin to realize what your portion sizes are and can make good decisions when it comes to eating out. They actually recommend that you dump your little containers out on a plate from time to time to see how much food it is so that when you’re sitting down for Mom’s good home cooked meals you can make sure to only scoop so much on your plate.

So this is my goal for the next 21 days. Wish me luck!
